Car break-ins at White Rock Lake parking lots — leave nothing visible

Dallas PD reports a spike in vehicle break-ins at White Rock Lake parking areas, particularly the lots near the Bath House Cultural Center and the Winfrey Point area.

Stats:

  • 15 reported break-ins in the last 2 weeks at WRL lots
  • Most occur during early morning (6-8 AM) and early evening hours
  • Targeted items: laptops, purses, gym bags, backpacks
  • Method: smash window, grab, gone in under 30 seconds

Protect yourself:

  • Leave NOTHING visible in your car. Nothing. Not even a gym bag.
  • Put valuables in the trunk BEFORE you arrive (they watch for people hiding things)
  • Don't leave your car charger or aux cable visible (signals there might be a phone)
  • Park in the most visible, populated areas
  • Consider leaving your car unlocked with nothing inside (some people prefer a rummaged car to a broken window)

Report break-ins:

  • Dallas PD online reporting for non-emergency: dallaspolice.net
  • In-progress: 911

I run there 4x a week. Started carrying everything in a running belt. Not worth the $500 window replacement.

DFW, what say you?

Had my window smashed at the Bath House lot last month. All they got was an empty gym bag. Cost me $350 to replace the window.

The key is putting things in the trunk BEFORE you arrive. They literally sit in the parking lot and watch people stuff things under seats.

I switched to running from my house to White Rock instead of driving. Problem solved, plus extra miles.

DPD said they are adding patrol car presence at the lots on weekends. But weekday mornings are still vulnerable.
