Went to Meso Maya (Deep Ellum, 2730 Commerce St) last weekend. A meal for two with drinks came to $78 before tip. I remember when this was a $40 dinner.
Current prices (as of March 2026):
- Enchiladas suizas: $17 (was $13 two years ago)
- Guacamole appetizer: $14
- Margarita: $13
- Mole sampler: $21
The food is still excellent — the mole negro is one of the best in DFW, and the interior Mexican cuisine focus is unique. But the value proposition has shifted.
Alternatives worth considering:
- La Calle Doce (Oak Cliff, 415 W 12th St) — Seafood-forward Mexican. Ceviche is outstanding. $12-18 entrees.
- El Bolero (Bishop Arts, 514 W Davis St) — Same upscale Mexican vibe, slightly cheaper.
- Gloria's (multiple) — Salvadoran-Mexican. Pupusas are $4 each.
- Mi Cocina — If you want the mambo taxi, you want the mambo taxi. Accept the price.

El Bolero happy hour is the play. Half-price apps and $7 margaritas. Same neighborhood too.
