Meso Maya just raised prices again — still worth it or time to find alternatives?

Went to Meso Maya (Deep Ellum, 2730 Commerce St) last weekend. A meal for two with drinks came to $78 before tip. I remember when this was a $40 dinner.

Current prices (as of March 2026):

  • Enchiladas suizas: $17 (was $13 two years ago)
  • Guacamole appetizer: $14
  • Margarita: $13
  • Mole sampler: $21

The food is still excellent — the mole negro is one of the best in DFW, and the interior Mexican cuisine focus is unique. But the value proposition has shifted.

Alternatives worth considering:

  • La Calle Doce (Oak Cliff, 415 W 12th St) — Seafood-forward Mexican. Ceviche is outstanding. $12-18 entrees.
  • El Bolero (Bishop Arts, 514 W Davis St) — Same upscale Mexican vibe, slightly cheaper.
  • Gloria's (multiple) — Salvadoran-Mexican. Pupusas are $4 each.
  • Mi Cocina — If you want the mambo taxi, you want the mambo taxi. Accept the price.

El Bolero happy hour is the play. Half-price apps and $7 margaritas. Same neighborhood too.

The mole negro at Meso Maya is still the best in Dallas. You can't replicate that at home. I'll pay $21.

La Calle Doce is my move now for Mexican food. The Veracruz-style seafood is incredible and it's 30% cheaper than Meso Maya.

Mi Cocina mambo taxis are $14 now. FOURTEEN DOLLARS for a frozen margarita. This city is losing its mind.
