Eating my way through DFW one neighborhood at a time. Oak Cliff roots.
Does anyone know if there's an update on this? Asking for my neighborhood.
The Honey Lady is a Rowlett treasure. Her wildflower honey is incredible and she'll spend 20 minutes teaching your kids about bees if you let her. My daughter now wants to be a beekeeper.
The fishing pier behind Springfield Park is my secret spot. I take my kids there on Saturday mornings and we always catch catfish. Channel cats love chicken liver and the pier puts you right over a drop-off.
We desperately need a bigger independent coffee shop. The Main Street area has the foot traffic and the parking to support one. If anyone is thinking about opening a coffee shop in Rowlett, this is your sign.
Village at Rowlett Creek is the best value in Rowlett apartments. Not fancy but functional. We saved up our down payment while living there for 2 years. Close to DART, close to 66, reasonable rent.
Been thinking about this all week. Good to see it getting traction here.
This hits different if you've been in DFW for 10+ years.
Anyone know if there's a paddleboard rental near Paddle Point? I don't own one but would love to try it on the lake without buying equipment.
I was a Rowlett firefighter on duty that night. We responded to Hazelwood Lane first. The destruction was something I'd never seen before and hope never to see again. Every house on that street was damaged. Several were just slabs. And nobody died. Nobody. That's the miracle of the 2015 tornado.
This is exactly the kind of conversation I come here for. Real local takes.
Coyle Middle School parent here. The principal responds to emails within 24 hours and actually shows up at school events. After dealing with Garland ISD administration where emails went into a black hole, this was a refreshing change.
The parking situation at Paddle Point is the #1 issue. The city expanded it recently and it's still not enough on nice weekends. If you're launching a boat, get there before 8 AM or go to Pecan Grove.
Liberty Grove parent checking in. It's a good school. Not flashy, not a lot of bells and whistles, but the teachers are experienced and the kids learn. That's what matters.
Bring chairs and get there by 5pm. We showed up at 5:45 last year and ended up standing behind 3 rows of people. The early birds get the curb.
Costco will never come to Rowlett. They need 15-20 acres with direct highway interchange access. The closest realistic location would be somewhere on PGBT with a dedicated interchange. Rowlett doesn't have that site.
One thing nobody mentions: RISD is growing fast and dealing with overcrowding at some campuses. GISD Rowlett schools have more stable enrollment. There are tradeoffs both ways.
Been thinking about this all week. Good to see it getting traction here.
Got rear-ended there in February 2025 turning left onto Dalrock. The car behind me assumed I was going on yellow. I stopped. They didn't. $6,000 in damage. Dashcam footage saved me — the other driver tried to say I brake-checked them.
Moved from the GISD side to the RISD side when our oldest started middle school. The difference is noticeable, especially in resources and class sizes at the middle school level. Worth the higher home price for us.

This is why I check this community daily. Information saves lives.
The Sapphire is nice but $1,500 for a 1BR in ROWLETT is wild. Three years ago that got you a 2BR anywhere in east DFW. The Sapphire Bay premium is real.
This is important for Houston residents to know about.
Following. Want to see what others think before I weigh in.
Interesting timing on this. The season is about to change the whole conversation.
I am interested. I work downtown and currently commute from Mesquite. This would cut my commute from 45 minutes driving to 35 minutes on DART with zero traffic stress. DM sent.
