Eating my way through DFW one neighborhood at a time. Oak Cliff roots.
This has been on my mind too. Living in Austin gives you a different perspective on it.
The Houston market is wild right now. Good topic.
Anyone tried the crappie brush piles on the northwest side? I've heard there are community brush piles sunk specifically for crappie but I can't find coordinates.
The algae warnings are SERIOUS. My neighbor's dog drank lake water during a bloom last August and had to be rushed to the emergency vet. She survived but it was $3,000 and touch and go for 48 hours. Check ntmwd.com before you go.
The white bass spring run up Rowlett Creek is the most fun fishing you can have on this lake. When they're in, you can catch 50+ fish in a morning on small jigs. Watch for the birds — when gulls are diving on the surface, the whites are underneath pushing shad up.
The key is putting things in the trunk BEFORE you arrive. They literally sit in the parking lot and watch people stuff things under seats.
Interesting timing on this. I was just talking about it with my neighbors.
S4 is a Dallas institution regardless of your orientation. The dance floor energy on a Saturday night is unmatched.
Does anyone know if there's an update on this? Asking for my neighborhood.
Veritas Wine Room self-pour machines are dangerous. You load a card and pour your own tastings from 100+ wines. My "I'll just have one glass" becomes 6 tastings fast.
That Double-A shortstop is legit. His exit velocity numbers are elite. Source: FanGraphs minor league stats.
Dallas College continuing ed classes are a hidden gem. I took a woodworking class for $120. Met cool people, learned a skill.
Academy pipeline keeps producing. If one kid breaks out, we surprise people.
I've bought art at this festival 3 years in a row. The quality is legitimately gallery-level. Found a ceramicist last year whose work is now in my living room.
Been waiting for someone to bring this up. Good thread.
Dallas Foundation has over 100 scholarships and most DFW students don't even know they exist. $500-$10,000 each. Source: dallasfoundation.org/scholarships
Living in Houston gives you a different lens on this. Appreciate the thread.
From Boston. The no income tax thing is real but property taxes eat a lot of it back. Net savings is maybe 2-3%, not the 5% you'd expect.
Trinity Trails in Fort Worth with 70+ miles is the most underrated trail system in Texas. You can run for hours and never repeat a section.
Rockin' the River at Panther Island is uniquely Fort Worth. Float on a tube in the Trinity River while a band plays on a floating stage. Peak Texas summer.
This is exactly why I love this platform. Real DFW conversations.
Frisco at 5.1% YOY appreciation is nuts. A $525K house will be $551K next year at that rate. When does it stop?
Selective enforcement is rampant. My neighbor has a boat in the driveway for 3 years — no fine. I park a truck for 2 days — $50 fine. Documented both with dated photos and the appeal was upheld.
Afternoon wind warning is real. I've had kayak outings ruined by 2 PM south wind. Paddle out in the morning when the lake is calm. By afternoon you're fighting whitecaps.
La Banqueta chilaquiles are a religious experience. Oak Cliff has the best Mexican breakfast in DFW and it's not even close.
