East Dallas / Mesquite. Blue collar. No BS.
As someone from Plano: "boring but excellent" is painfully accurate. I can walk to 15 chain restaurants and zero interesting bars.
Angel's Egg is 71 minutes of near-silent animation about a girl carrying an egg through a ruined city. It is either the most profound anime film ever made or the most pretentious. Possibly both.
The MCU's $30 billion proves that Marvel's interconnected storytelling model works at a scale DC has never achieved. The DCEU failed because they tried to skip the buildup. Marvel earned their crossovers.
My apartment complex in Addison tried to charge me $800 for "carpet replacement" after 4 years. Normal wear and tear per the statute. Sent the demand letter, got my full deposit back in a week.
Hot take: Deadpool & Wolverine was a perfect ending. A fourth movie risks diminishing returns. Let it breathe.
I worked at the Haslet one for 6 months. It's hard work but the benefits are solid and they promoted me twice.

These numbers line up with my experience. The YouTube dashers are either lying or cherry-picking their best weeks.
Dallas Public Library downtown is actually great for working. Free wifi, quiet spaces, outlets everywhere. Just don't go on weekends.
The issue is the hours are rough. Nights, weekends, holidays. That's why everyone left the industry during COVID and never came back.
The airport game is feast or famine. I've had $80 rides to Plano and I've had $8 rides to the rental car center.
Summer is money season for sure. I cleared $85K last year and I'm not even a business owner. Just a senior tech.
Fortnite's model is the gold standard for ethical free-to-play. The game is genuinely free. Skins are purely cosmetic. You can play thousands of hours without spending a dollar. Every other F2P game should copy this.
The pension is the real draw. 20 years and you can retire with a decent monthly check. Try finding that in the private sector.
I work at one of them (not saying which). It's corporate but not terrible. The stability is nice after being at places that do layoffs every quarter.
Friend of mine did 3 years in corrections then moved to a county admin role. Used it as a stepping stone.
Same thing happened to me at a place on LBJ. Promised one thing, delivered something completely different.

Whataburger at 2 AM after a night out in Deep Ellum is a spiritual experience. Honey butter chicken biscuit. Trust me.
Filed with DOL last year for unpaid overtime at a DFW warehouse. Investigation took 4 months. Got back pay for the entire team, not just me. $40K+ recovered.
This is why you always keep your pay stubs. Every. Single. One. Digital screenshots count too.
The SimpleLogin alias trick is brilliant. I have 200+ aliases. When a company gets breached, I know exactly who leaked because each one has a unique alias. Then I just delete that alias.
Goldman in Richardson pays surprisingly well. My friend is a senior engineer there making $230K TC. That is Bay Area money with DFW cost of living.
Infosec professional in DFW here as well. The SIM swap warning is critical. I have seen people lose their entire crypto portfolio because they relied on SMS 2FA. Use an authenticator app.
The battery camera in Texas heat warning is real. My Ring Spotlight Cam needed charging every 2 weeks in July. Switched to wired Reolink and never looked back.
