This will come up at the next city council meeting for sure.
"Competitive benefits" with no specifics = bad benefits. Real companies list their benefits because they're proud of them. Vague ones are hiding something.
Texas is at-will employment. They can fire you for almost any reason at any time. So when they say "job security," ask about actual turnover rates. That's the real answer.
Marfa is one of the weirdest towns in America in the best way. Art installations in the middle of nowhere, the Marfa lights, Prada Marfa. Combine it with Big Bend for a full trip.
The electricity thing. I had no idea you have to CHOOSE your electric provider. Signed up for a variable rate plan my first month and got a $380 bill in August.
Not something I expected to read today but glad I did.
If they won't let you talk to anyone who actually does the job, run. I always ask to speak with a current team member. If they hesitate, there's a reason.
How big everything is. Nothing is close. Even the grocery store is a 15 minute drive. Coming from a walkable city this took serious adjustment.
Kroger digital coupons are annoying but I save $15-20 a trip when I actually clip them. It takes 3 minutes on the app.
Allergies. Cedar fever in winter is not a joke. I never had allergies anywhere else. Moved here and now I want to die every December through February.

How genuinely friendly people are. I was suspicious at first. Turns out people just wave and hold doors open here. It's not weird, it's normal.
Dallas County side of Rowlett is the move for value. Same Rowlett address, same schools, same lake, lower tax rates, slightly lower home prices. Not sure why more people don't talk about this.
I voted for the 2019 bonds and it's satisfying to see the projects actually getting built. Chiesa Rd and Lakeview Pkwy widening were the two biggest reasons I voted yes.
The Saturday Boot Camp is insane. I thought I was in shape and I was dying 20 minutes in. The instructor doesn't yell but the workouts speak for themselves. Highly recommend.
The "no income tax" thing is a trap. They get you with property tax, sales tax, and toll roads. You end up paying the same or more than a lot of income tax states.

one thing id add: make sure you know the rules. NAGA and IBJJF have different rule sets, especially for what submissions are legal at each belt level. getting DQd for a heel hook at white belt because you didnt know the rules is a terrible way to lose

Chorizo and egg with a little bit of potato mixed in. Squeeze of lime. That's the one.

Nostalgia is literally part of food culture. You're not making the point you think you're making. Also the spicy ketchup is elite.
Big Bend is 100% worth it but you need at least 3-4 days. The drive is brutal but once you're there it feels like another planet. Camp at the Chisos Basin if you can get a spot.
Find a place that makes their tortillas in house. That's the only criteria that matters. Everything else follows.
HEB store brand stuff is genuinely good quality. Their creamy creations ice cream competes with Blue Bell. I said what I said.
