Third Ward is one of Houston's oldest and most culturally significant Black neighborhoods. It's also surrounded by two of the most powerful institutions in the city — Texas Southern University and the University of Houston.

• Land values have tripled in some blocks over the last decade. Developers are buying lots from longtime families for cash.
• New townhome developments are popping up on blocks that were single-family homes for generations. The new residents don't look like the old residents.
• UH expansion keeps pushing the boundary. Student housing developments are replacing neighborhood homes.

Mueller neighborhood: Austin most successful urban experiment

Mueller was the old Robert Mueller Municipal Airport. When the airport moved to ABIA, the city turned 700 acres into a mixed-use neighborhood. It's the closest thing Austin has to a walkable, bikeable, family-friendly urban village.

• The Thinkery — Austin's children's museum. Excellent for kids under 10.
• Alamo Drafthouse Mueller — One of the best Alamo locations. Movies + food + beer.
• HEB Mueller — The nicest HEB in Austin. Great prepared food section.

Finding a trustworthy mechanic in DFW is like finding a parking spot at NorthPark in December. Here's my vetted list.

UTD is academically great but socially it's a ghost town on weekends

I'm a junior at UTD and I love the education. The CS program is legit, professors are solid, and the campus has gotten way nicer.

• the community feel is stronger than most DFW gyms because the team is smaller. everyone knows everyone
