Hill Country in the spring is unbeatable. Fredericksburg for wineries, Enchanted Rock for hiking, and the wildflowers on the roadside are insane in April.

Paddle Point on a Saturday morning at 7 AM is the best version of Rowlett. The lake is glass, the sun is coming up, and you can launch a kayak into perfect calm water. By 10 AM it's chaos but that early window is magic.

Following. Want to see what others think before I weigh in.

The sunrise kayak from Springfield Park is the best thing I do in Rowlett. On a calm morning the lake is a mirror. I have seen bald eagles, herons, pelicans, and once a bobcat on the shore. It does not feel like you are 20 minutes from Dallas.

If you kayak on the open water, check the wind forecast first. I got caught in 20 MPH gusts once between Waterview and the main body and it was genuinely dangerous. Stay near the shore.

This is why I specifically bought a house with no HOA even though it meant a longer commute. My trash can sits wherever I want and nobody sends me letters about it.

This is relevant to my interests. Saving this thread.

Important tip: call the school directly and ask about class sizes before enrolling. Some grades at some schools are more crowded than others. The front office will give you real numbers.

Year 8 teacher here. I love teaching. I cannot afford teaching. I tutor, do test prep on weekends, and drive for a rideshare in the summer. It shouldn't be like this.

This parade is the highlight of our year. My kids start asking about it in October. There's something about a small-town Christmas parade that just hits different. Rowlett does it right.

Still waiting for prices to come down. Used EVs are getting more affordable though. Seen used Tesla Model 3s under $25K. Might be the move.

Dog park if you have a dog. I've made more friends through my dog in 6 months than I made on my own in a year. Dogs are social lubricant.

fought my first smoker in DFW last year. the adrenaline dump is not a joke. i literally forgot my combinations and just threw right hands for 3 rounds. lost the decision but learned more about myself in those 9 minutes than years of training

We're on the GISD side (Schrade Elementary feeds) and have been very happy. Schrade is an excellent school with great teachers and an involved parent community. Don't let the district average scare you off from specific good schools.

Chick-fil-A is the gold standard and I'm tired of people trying to find something better. It's sweet tea. They perfected it. Move on.

Be the one who initiates. "We should hang out sometime" means nothing. "Want to grab tacos Saturday at 1pm?" is a plan. Most people want friends but nobody wants to be the one to plan things.

my gym teaches them progressively which i think is the right approach. white belts learn straight ankle and defense. blue belts learn inside position and heel hooks. purple belts get the full system. safe and comprehensive

Springfield Park boat ramp before 7 AM on a Saturday morning — you will have the whole lake to yourself. Best kept secret in Rowlett.

Did the Texas BBQ trail — hit 5 different BBQ spots across the state in 3 days. Gained 8 pounds. No regrets.

If you're lucky enough to have a Gold's Gym nearby, that's still the gold standard for serious lifting. Some locations are better than others though.

hidden gem is the right description. its not flashy and it doesnt have UFC fighters training there but the coaching is legit and the people are great. sometimes thats all you need

Brazilian jiu jitsu gym. I know it sounds random but hear me out — you train with the same people 3-4 times a week, you suffer together, and the community is insanely tight. Changed my social life.

The trail connecting Community Park to Pecan Grove is one of the best running paths in the eastern suburbs. Flat, shaded, paved, and rarely crowded. I do a 5K loop three mornings a week.

Read your CC&Rs cover to cover. Half the violations HOAs send out are either not actually in the rules or they're enforcing selectively. If your neighbor's trash can is visible too, document it and bring it up.

Can someone from the north side weigh in? Curious if it's the same up there.
