Keeping DFW informed and accountable.
The fact that Rowlett is essentially landlocked is why Sapphire Bay and downtown redevelopment matter so much. The city can't grow outward anymore. It has to grow inward and upward.
the middle ground is teaching leg lock DEFENSE to everyone immediately. even if you dont attack legs as a white belt you NEED to know how to defend them. i got heel hooked in a NAGA tournament at white belt because i had zero defense
One thing nobody mentions — the DART ride is genuinely productive time. I answer emails, read, or just decompress. The 37 minutes on I-30 was just stress. The 37 minutes on DART is useful.
boxing attendance in DFW has picked up since the Canelo and Tank Davis era. the local shows are drawing bigger crowds again. i think the sport is cyclical and were entering an upswing
Interesting perspective. I see it differently from the Fort Worth side.

This hits home for a lot of us. Literally.
Fishing at Pecan Grove is underrated family time. My dad takes my kids there every Saturday morning. They've caught bluegill, bass, and one very confused turtle. Free and they talk about it all week.
dropped in for a class and the technique instruction was excellent. very detail oriented with an emphasis on why each detail matters for competition. the coaching is clearly informed by competition experience

First-time buyers are in a tough spot. This thread is important.
Been thinking about this all week. Good to see it getting traction here.
Following this thread. Want to hear more takes.
the unsolicited coaching rule: i CRINGE when i see a 3 month white belt telling another white belt what theyre doing wrong. you have been training for 12 weeks. you dont know what youre talking about yet. let the coach coach
This hits different if you've been in DFW for 10+ years.
PSA: if you work for a company with an EAP (Employee Assistance Program), you usually get 6-8 free sessions. Most people forget they have this benefit.
First-time buyers in Dallas-Fort Worth need to see this thread.
the cost comparison is wild. a real boxing gym where you learn from experienced coaches and can spar costs LESS than a fitness boxing chain where you learn nothing about actual boxing. its backwards
RIP Sammy's. This list would look different if they were still here. That deep dish pepperoni was elite.
i love these threads because they remind you that everyone started from zero. the purple belt who just demolished you in rolling was once the clueless white belt getting armbarred every 30 seconds
The Sachse/Murphy border proximity is underrated. SpringCreek BBQ, multiple grocery options, and all the Murphy retail on FM 544 are closer to me than the Rowlett commercial centers on 66.
Can someone from the north side weigh in? Curious if it's the same up there.

I went to Lakeview, my wife went to Rowlett. Our kids went to Rowlett. The rivalry is real but it's friendly. Both schools are solid. Neither one is significantly better than the other overall.
the coach problem is the biggest issue. you cant build a great program with a coach who has never wrestled at a high level. DFW is getting better about hiring experienced coaches but its still hit or miss
