Rabies alert in Copperas Cove | What you should know

Officials encourage anyone who has interacted with wild animals directly or indirectly to reach out to a medical professional and contact first responders.

COPPERAS COVE, Texas — If you or your pet has come across a raccoon, skunk or other wild animal in the Copperas Cove area, you may be at risk for rabies, according to Copperas Cove Animal Control.

On Monday at 6:30 p.m., a Copperas Cove Animal Officer was sent to the 500 block of Skyline Drive in reference to an injured raccoon. The raccoon was found and brought in. After showing signs of illness, Animal Control says the raccoon was humanely euthanized for rabies testing.
