DFW job market update Q1 2026: What's hiring, what's freezing, what's cutting

Quarterly update on the DFW job market. Here's what's actually happening on the ground.

Actively hiring (strong demand):

  • Healthcare: Across the board. RNs, techs, therapists. Baylor, UTSW, THR, Parkland all hiring aggressively.
  • Construction/trades: Data centers in Allen and Garland. Residential in Celina/Prosper. Cannot find enough workers.
  • Financial services: Schwab, Fidelity, Goldman (new DFW presence) expanding.
  • Logistics/warehousing: Amazon, UPS, FedEx DFW operations growing.

Stable (hiring selectively):

  • Tech: Not the boom of 2021 but not dead. Capital One, Toyota Connected, TI still hiring senior roles.
  • Defense: Lockheed, Raytheon, L3Harris — steady government contracts.
  • Corporate functions: Marketing, HR, finance roles at Fortune 500 HQs.

Cautious/freezing:

  • Real estate: Slowdown in residential brokerage. Agents are struggling.
  • Media/advertising: Agency layoffs continuing.
  • Retail corporate: Some DFW retail HQs restructuring.

DFW unemployment: 3.4% (BLS, Feb 2026). Below national average of 3.9%.

Average time to hire:

  • Entry-level: 2-4 weeks
  • Mid-level: 3-6 weeks
  • Senior/executive: 6-12 weeks

3.4% unemployment means if you're unemployed in DFW and willing to work, you can find something within 2-3 weeks. The market is tight.

Healthcare hiring is not slowing down. My hospital (Baylor Dallas) has had open RN positions for 6+ months. The shortage is structural, not cyclical.

Data center construction jobs in Allen are paying electricians $45-55/hour with overtime available. If you're in the trades, this is a gold rush.
